So cliché that every time Gianna went out with someone with a man, Christian happens to be there.

Here too, at one point their “accidental” meets seemed overwritten and added just to keep the storyline on.

Most irritating of all is how the two characters take the longest time to get to it.

I guess that’s what happens when the writer writes another book revolving around people already in the first instalment.

One similarity between the two books is that they both start with a criminal, suspicious incident that the speaker is dealing with.

Being from the same writer, there are plenty of similarities in writing style and structure: This time, I won’t go into the summary, since the gist is pretty much the same as The Sweetest Oblivion minus the arranged marriage but including the infidelity. But, as the story developed gradually, I realized that their story might be better and more fun to read than Nico and Elena’s because unlike her, Gianna is feisty, tactful, teasing and a woman of her own needs. So, the plot having these two as lovers was hard-to-digest at first. Not one bit ideal but hey, that’s the fun. Prim, sharp dresser, organized, uniform guy, slightly corrupt, power hungry, stoic, detached, obsessed and impulsive. Whereas Agent Christian is everything a fantasy’s made of. Be it her “skimpy” clothes or too old of a husband, she is a walking trouble.

This is what I love about reading fiction- how a multitude of contradictory thoughts arise and how they are still justified and complementing.Īnyone who has read the first instalment would agree that Gianna’s character has been portrayed as a stuck-up, rich girl who is basically a gold digger and just not likeable. But knowing what this book entails, I grew (more) eager than ever. I don’t know if it happens with you, but until now I always had this notion that a spin-off story mars the original story and can never measure up.

It wasn’t for its genre or setting, (come to think of it, I have actually found fondness for both of them) rather the fact that The Maddest Obsession’s story is somewhat linked to The Sweetest Oblivion.

Just like the first book in the quartet series, I was apprehensive about this one too, don’t get me wrong but for a completely different reason.

And nobody gives up their fucking spot in Heaven. When you’re obsessed with something for so long and finally obtain it? It feels like coming home to God.
